Traditional favorites, a bit of electronica, and a Celtic-style original round out our second release. Released October 24, 2013.

Change is never easy, especially when it happens so suddenly, and so swiftly. Since its inception, SOM has seen many additions to our lineup, but had no departures. Then in 2013, two founding members (Jason Hohl and Jereb Scott) and one new member (Amber Scott) left the band. Our friendships remained intact, but we, the remaining members, were left asking ourselves, “Now what?” Out of that question, Chapter was born.
What began as jam sessions around kitchen tables has become a seasoned live band that performs throughout the Pacific Northwest, and a well-received album to our name. With the new EP, Chapter, we embrace the old band, while welcoming the new direction that always comes with change. Old and new members are featured on this release, with songs that showcase our old style and, without looking back, explore some new directions as well.
SOM has always had a strong love of the traditional, but we love the modern elements as well; our interpretation of “Ye Jacobites”, the first track on our new release, is a perfect example. It’s a risky move to start off with something so different from what we have ever done, but we ask that you give it a chance.
So now what? As one of our founding members has said time and again, “We’re friends first, and a band second.” With that we turn the page on a chapter in our history together, happy and grateful for what has happened, but looking forward to what’s next. — Josh Curll, Sons of Malarkey

Oh river take me down, far from this place
Where the old world ends and the new one begins
Oh river flow me down to the edge of the sea
Wash me away leave no trace, on the breaking waves
Oh river let your tide take me all of the way
Far from the man, and a world away
So sail out to sea, to all our needs
So sail with me, where the river meets the sea
Oh world don’t you see, we’re as blind as can be
And no can see all the harm that we reap
Oh world don’t believe all the words that are said
For we lie and we steal, and our greed has no end
(Chorus)
Oh sea take me down to the edge of the world
Let me fall off the edge to begin again
Oh sea don’t you see that it’s never the end
Where the river meets the sea and the sun rest it’s head
(Break)
Oh moon don’t you shine on all of our trials
Please don’t you sigh, if only we would smile
Oh moon please pass by on this long winter’s night
So we can live life and leave sadness behind
